The much-an­tic­i­pated West Asia Basketball As­so­ci­a­tion (WABA) 2017 Cham­pi­onship kicked off on the last week­end of Jan­uary, with six na­tional teams from the re­gion (Le­banon, Jor­dan, Iraq, Pales­tine, Syria and Iran) com­pet­ing for gold in host coun­try Jor­dan’s Club Fuheis. Cor­re­spond­ing hash­tag #WABA2017 soared to the top sec­onds af­ter the first match op­pos­ing Iraq and Le­banon kicked off on Sun­day af­ter­noon, end­ing with a mas­sive 46-86 win for the lat­ter. With top con­tender Le­banon re­vamp­ing its forces with new coach Joe Mou­jaes and re­turn­ing leg­end Fadi el Khatib and 2016 ti­tle-holder Iran ready to de­fend its ti­tle, the tour­na­ment prom­ises to bring ex­cite­ment and an­tic­i­pa­tion for all basketball lovers in the re­gion.
