New Order - Old charm
When Joy Division evolved into New Order, Saville kept designing some of the most eye-catching releases. Each example is a journey into time, a post-modernistic re-evaluation of artistic styles. ‘Movement’ is a homage to Italian futurism. ‘Ceremony’ reflects the timeless grief inscribed on ancient tombstones. ‘Power, Corruption and Lies’ is a juxtaposition between the old and the new. A 19th century oil painting by Fantin-latour is flanked by industrial colour coding. Flowers illustrate the Machiavellian thinking in everyday life. A scary thought for Valentine's Day.
