HOW DO YOU EVALUATE THE OVERALL STANDARD OF WORK?
I visually enjoyed each and every participant’s posters. My compliments go to all of them. Some of the competitors are really good designers in spite the fact they are still at a junior level. I must say the standard was acceptable from all the students but certain pieces showed a little more maturity and had given their designs a little more edge.
ANY ADVICE THAT YOU’D LIKE TO EXTEND TO STUDENTS?
I would offer some advice in that candidates make sure that the poster they submit shows aesthetic considerations, for even if their concept is good, their lackluster visual representations might take away from their overall impact.
WHAT DISTINGUISHES THE 14 FINALISTS FROM THE REST?
I do want to say that a few entries that did not make it to the finals really impressed me as well and made me wish there were a few additional spots. For the finals, some posters just would not be denied and have rightfully earned their spots. All for different reasons, they just cut through everything with an impressively simple and strong concept while balanced with visual prioritisation.
ANYTHING THAT YOU’D LIKE TO ADD?
I want to thank the Arabad magazine for the opportunity it gave me to judge this fine competition. I want to thank the sponsors as well that believed in the young students’ talent and supported them till the end. I believe that the idea and structure of this competition will continue to make Arabad magazine grow and increase its reach across designers seeking competitive opportunities. Hope this competition will expose the careers of the winners for the better.
