#SEARCHIS20: CELEBRATING 20 YEARS OF GOOGLE

Your favorite know-it-all celebrated its 20th birthday on on September 27 with yet another memorable Google Doodle featuring some of the most popular searches around the world over past couple decades. Users were also given the chance to revisit 20 notable doodles throughout history, from the earliest [unofficial] doodle marking founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin’s trip to Burning Man in 1998 to the Emmy-nominated first ever VR/360 Doodle celebrating the life of French director Georges Méliès earlier this year. “Twenty (ish) years ago, two Stanford PH.D. students launched a new search engine with a bold mission to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful,” the official website read, before going on to highlight Google’s expansion into a universal engine with search offerings in over 150 languages across more than 190 countries and its ongoing dedication to building products for everyone. Google’s celebratory trip down memory lane eventually wasn’t complete without a few easter eggs, notably when it comes to searching for ‘outdated’ search terms such as ‘Y2K’ or ‘chat room’, which would then leave you with a kind reminder that “it’s 2018” coupled with a more ‘contemporary’ set of results on things like cryptocurrency or GIFS for instance. Gotta love the unexpected humor between keywords!
