Lebanese MP Roula Tabsh Under Fire Following Church Visit

-

Lebanese MP Roula Tabsh became the talk of the Internet after she approached the priest to receive a blessing during communion while attending New Year’s mass at a Catholic Church on January 2. And while she did not actually receive communion, her gesture of tolerance, which received praise from many, did not sit well with some people, who accused her of ‘betraying her Islamic faith’. Tabsh was quick to voice her surprise at the wave of criticism, explaining that showing respect for other religions’ rituals does not take away from a person’s faith. But as the hype escalated, she ultimately chose to pay a follow-up visit to supreme Sunni religious authority Dar al-fatwa, after which she went on to reiterate her commitment to Islam and ‘apologize to God’, sparking yet another round of negative reaction from those who had first supported her action. As funny as it gets if you really think about it, her story comes as added proof that you can never please everyone on social media!
