#SAVEOURFACE: PROMOTING LEBANON’S BIGGEST BEACH CLEANUP
Early in June, pictures of Lebanese public figures, influencers and celebrities covering their faces with their hand under the hashtag #Saveourface started circulating on Instagram. As people wondered what the campaign could be about, it was revealed to be an initiative by Lebanon’s environment ministry to promote the country’s largest beach cleanup to date, which ultimately took place on Sunday 9. The cleanup took place in multiple locations across the Lebanese coast, covering over 120 spots with the help of 7,000 volunteers. The campaign is an example of how government entities can make use of social media to mobilize people about important causes to drive change, notably in a country eaten by corruption like Lebanon.
BELLA HADID’S SHOE CONTROVERSY MAKES HER STEP FORWARD WITH APOLOGY
Supermodel Bella Hadid found herself in hot waters after posting an airport story of her shoe, which happened to be covering both a Saudi Arabian and United Arab Emirates aircraft, spurring a wave of harsh criticism towards her as some social media users accused her of disrespect, prompting #Bellahadidisracist to the trending hashtags worldwide. “I would never want my posts or platform to be used for hate against anyone especially those of my own beautiful and powerful heritage,” the half-palestinian American model wrote in an apology tweet. “The photo of my shoe on my story yesterday had nothing to do with politics. I promise. I never noticed the planes in the background and that is the truth. I would never mean to disrespect these airlines, let alone these amazing countries.” This is yet another instance that proves how much the world has become both overtly sensitive and desensitized when it comes to socio-cultural values on the one hand, and how much modern day social media users need to be careful with any piece of content they post.
THE 'DOUBLE G' GETS A REVAMP
Over the past couple of years, numerous fashion houses have gone through changes with their logo, from Balmain to Burberry and Celine. Although nothing official has been revealed just yet, we’ve noticed that Gucci updated a new logo design on their social media outlets. The new logo, seen on Gucci’s Instagram channel, keeps the original GG form but in a different style.the G’s are now less abstract and more typographical, with pronounced hairlines and bars. What's to come next, well all fashionistas out there will need to wait and see.
