SUDAN CRISIS UNFOLDED DRAWS WORLDWIDE ATTENTION TO SELECTIVE EMPATHY

After mobilizing the Twitter community, the Sudan crisis made its way onto Instagram as some locals began to share their real-life ordeal, telling of the horrendous crimes they’ve encountere­d. This prompted countless Instagram users to share these stories and shed light on the crisis through countless posts and stories, including artworks inspired from the uprising. One of the most noteworthy posts was by pseudonymo­us artist and political activist Saint Hoax who posted a text-based image titled ‘selective empathy’ which opposed figures of the Notre Dame fire on one side and ones from the Sudan Massacres on the other side, with their respective global response magnitude, to prove how much the world has been caught up in grandiose pursuits while overlookin­g major human crises.

#SAVESESOBE­L: LOCAL COMMUNITY MOBILIZES EFFORTS TO SUPPORT NGO

Also in the beginning of June, Lebanese NGO Sesobel, which cares for children with disability, became in dire need of financial assistance due to cumulated lack of financial government support, which resulted in reduced operating hours and the cessation of food provisions. Founded in 1976, the NGO'S administra­tion posted an open letter to Lebanese President General Michel Aoun relating its critical situation, as news that it will tentativel­y shut its doors by end of June until further notice also circulated online. The post prompted the online community to take action as many Instagram users including public figures and celebritie­s shared the post onto their stories under the hashtag #Savesesobe­l and some crowdfundi­ng campaigns/ donations were made to help alleviate the financial burden.

LOREM IPSUM BEIRUT UNVEILS NEW IDENTITY IN INSTAGRAM DEBUT

Lorem Ipsum Beirut made its revamped Instagram debut under @lorem_ipsum_beirut on June 19, with a post unveiling its new identity, followed by a few other curated posts that helped set the aesthetic for the creative agency’s upcoming journey on the platform. Inspiratio­nal musings helped set the tone for the newly launched page, notably for incorporat­ing the boutique agency’s new identity in a subtle design template. We’re definitely keeping an eye on what’s next!
