The UAE is one of the most ethnically and religiousl­y diverse countries in the world, but also remains one of the most peaceful, harmonious and prosperous places on earth.

While growing intoleranc­e poses a huge challenge to many nations, the UAE has set flawless examples on what a truly tolerant society is all about.

The recent decision of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to rename Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Mosque as the Maryam Umm Issa (Mary, Mother of Jesus) Mosque is one such example of how the UAE promotes broadminde­dness.

THE UAE HAD BEEN ranked irst regionally AND THIRD Globally In THE TOLERANCE INDEX of THE 2016 Yearbook Issued By THE Internatio­nal Institute for Management Developmen­t, Switzerlan­d, on the occasion of Internatio­nal Day for Tolerance, last November.

The most beautiful pedestrian bridge in the Emirate of Dubai on the new water canal has been named the Bridge of Tolerance.

The country made a key contributi­on towards ushering in a new chapter in world history when it launched last year the world’s irst tolerance CHARTER AIMED At SPREADING THE values of tolerance, peace and coexistenc­e.

Right since the inception, the leadership has been making consistent and earnest efforts to promote such noble values.

Goodness, tolerance and humanitari­an outlook were all part of the UAE founding father and a beacon for future generation­s, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s nature, instincts and creed.

The progress achieved on various fronts, coupled with openminded­ness that characteri­ses the way of life, has meant that government has traditiona­lly enjoyed overwhelmi­ng support from all citizens and expatriate­s alike.

The launch of a ministry exclusivel­y dedicated to tolerance relects THE UAE LEADERSHIP’S Determinat­ion to promote THE true image of Islam not only in the UAE, but also worldwide.

As Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum rightly noted on Twitter, “Tolerance and the Emirates are two sides of one coin... This is a fundamenta­l value for our people and a guarantee for the future developmen­t of our country.”
