Teen stabbed to death, one youth held

A 16-year-old student of Class IX of a government school in east Delhi was stabbed to death on Wednesday by a group of five-six unidentifi­ed youths, police said. One of the culprits has since been arrested.

Police said Mohammad Sultan had left for his residence in Ashok Nagar from his school in New Usmanpur area around 1 p.m. when the group of youths stopped him and started beating him.

“One of them stabbed Sultan half a dozen times with a knife,” a senior police oficer SAID.

The accused escaped the spot after which the victim was taken to nearby Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Sultan lived with his family in Ashok NAGAR AREA, AND HAD A ight with some school students a few days ago.

Police is examining the closedcirc­uit television footage at nearby shops and areas to identify the accused.

Separately, a young man has been arrested on the charge of killing a law student in north Delhi last week, police said on Wednesday.

Police said accused Gaurav Chaudhary of Burari was arrested on Tuesday evening from a park in that area.

Gaurav, 23, had allegedly killed Ashish Bhardwaj, 24, a Final Year law student on Nov.9 when the latter along with his two friends was walking down the Nala Road in Burari.

“Gaurav told police during questionin­g that he was returning home on a motorcycle on that day when he brawled with Ashish and his friends. HE SAID HE ired At ASHISH when HE and his friends tried to overpower him,” Deputy Commission­er of Police Rishi Pal said.

Ashish lived with his relatives in Gurugram and was a student of a law college there, and had come to meet his friends Anup and Himanshu in Burari when he was murdered.
