Imran asked to submit reply in 4 criminal cases

- BY TARIQ BUTT

ISLAMABAD: An Anti-terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad on Friday ordered Pakistan Tehrik-e-insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan to record his statement in four criminal cases registered after his 2014 sitin at D-chowk Islamabad.

Earlier, the court had dismissed Imran’s written statement in the case as inadmissible, but had granted him pre-arrest bail in all these cases on Nov.14. One of the cases relates to the attack on senior police oficer Asmatullah Junejo at the time.

As the hearing began, Imran’s lawyer sought exemption for his client from appearing in the ATC, upon which the judge asked if a defendant on pre-arrest bail could be given it.

The counsel responded that an exemption could be granted, but the government’s lawyer argued against it. Later, the PTI chairman’s lawyer announced that Imran would be making an appearance in the court soon.

ATC Judge Shahrukh Arjumand instructed him to co-ordinate with the police investigation oficer to decide upon a date and time for the PTI chief to record his statement before him. The hearing was adjourned until Dec.7. ‘NO COMPARISON’

Imran later told reporters that there is no comparison between him and ousted prime miniter Nawaz Sharif since he was willing to go to the police station to assist the investigation and strengthen the judicial system, whereas the ex-premier is maligning the judiciary, the army and all other institutions for his own gain. Comparing me to Sharif is like comparing me to Sultana Daku.”
