- BY TARIQ BUTT

ISLAMABAD: Senior leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Nadeem Afzal Chan will join the Pakistan Tehrik-e- Insaf (PTI) on April 25.

He met PTI Chairman Imran Khan at the latter’s Bani Gala residence in Islamabad. He is the latest to jump ship after some other stalwarts from the PPP joined the PTI recently.

According to a statement issued by the PTI, during his meeting with Khan, Chan invited him to visit his residence in Sargodha on April 25 where he will formally announce to join the party.

The statement said senior PTI leaders Jahangir Khan Tareen and Shah Mehmood Qureshi were also present during the meeting.

It said the PPP leader accepted invitation to join the PTI and he would announce his decision on April 25th .

The PPP is going through the worst crisis of its history in Punjab as it has lost most of the by-elections held in the province recently.

Earlier, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, Nazar Gondal and some other left the PPP to join Khan. Reports about Chan joining the PTI had been doing the rounds for the last few months that he had been denying.

During the chaotic times when Chan remained associated with the PPP, he kept defending it everywhere. However, he was quite for the past few months, indicating that he is leaving his party. Senior PPP leaders made several efforts to stop Chan from departing from their party but in vain.
