CHENNAI: Shocking details are emerging of a college assistant professor’ s effort to woo female students into a sex rack et which allegedly involves top oficials of Tamil Nadu’s highly reputed Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU).

Nirmala Devi of Arupukottai was arrested earlier this week over her alleged advise to students “to adjust with some oficials” in return for higher marks and money. While it is alleged that she took some students and colleagues on a tour to Courtallam in a bid to gain intimacy with some of them, her whats a pp conversations reveal a strong bid to woo some despite stiff resistance. In the irst audio that came out and led to her arrest, Devi is heard suggesting that the girls “adjust” with some (education) oficials, “for getting 85 per cent mark and money.” Transcripts of her Whatsapp chats with students reveal that she was pressing the students to yield to her demands and assured a “bright future” to them.

Devi is not explicit about the “opportunity” that she has for the students. She is heard asking them to change their display pictures and even telling them to eat eggs.

In a message dated March 2, she asks the students: “Darlings, can we form a team? When madam goes out, do you want to come with me? Can we quietly achieve (this)?” She tells a student, “then (student name), u and (student name) eat egg per my request In academically as well as thick friendship level... I will GUIDE u in academicaly and inancially ... also in career.. How much u keep the secret that much u will be appreciated by all.” Devi asks all the students to change their display picture on Whatsapp. “Pls change all of ur dp’s with ur’s SUPER (individual) photos (Student name) sending gm msg,” she says.

The student is not pleased. “Ma’am I didn’t expect this. This will not work out for my family and me. So please don’t discuss this anymore.

Hope you understand.” But Devi persists. “Opportunities coming then only I am suggesting, asking. Think. Think. Think.

“When luck knocks on your door, you must use it. Luck will come only once in a while.” The student categorically reminds her that it is a sin. “This is not luck and don’t repeat it. What do you think? “Please don’t go and ask another girl all this. I am repulsed just by listening to this. It doesn’t matter what you think. If someone else had asked what you just asked me, the outcome would have been very different.

“I respect your age and position so I am going silently. Don’t think that just because I am silent, that you are correct. Don’t speak to anyone like this. If you speak to me like this again, the outcome will be different.” Devi doesn’t get rattled. “A small but strong ladder is before my eyes. That’s why I suggested this,” she says.
