Suspect hurled gasoline at Asma after she rejected his marriage proposal

LAHORE: Police in Punjab have arrested a Muslim man accused of burning a Christian woman to death for refusing his marriage offer, an OFICIAL SAID on Monday.

IJAZ SHAHID, A police OFICIAL In THE eastern Punjab province, said the suspect hurled gasoline at the woman outside her home in the city of Sialkot last week BEFORE setting HER on ire AND LEEING THE SCENE.

THE OFICIAL says Asma YAQUB was taken to a hospital in the city of Lahore, where she died late on Sunday. He says Rizwan Gujar confessed to the attack.

Attacks on women over marriage refusals or perceived “dishonor” are not uncommon in Pakistan. Such attacks often involve throwing acid with the Intention to Disigure or kill.

TRANSGENDE­R SHOT DEAD

In a separate incident, a transgende­r was shot dead after being beaten up by a group of armed men in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhw­a province, the media reported on Monday.

The group raided Khan Ullah alias Sheena’s house in Swabi district on Sunday night, beat her up and then shot her dead, according to Trans Action Pakistan, an organisati­on that addresses the needs and issues of the community.

The organisati­on accused the Khyber Pakhtunkhw­a government of completely failing to protect the community in the province, saying that 56 transgende­rs have been killed since 2015, reports Dawn news. An FIR has been registered against the assailants and an investigat­ion is underway. However, the motive remains unknown.
