Another professor held in TN sex scam
CHENNAI: Another professor at the Madurai Kamaraj University has been arrested over the “sex for marks and money” scandal which erupted with the arrest of Asst. Professor Nirmala Devi a few days ago. Asst. Prof.
V. Murugan, who had been in hiding, was caught on Monday as he arrived at the university to sign the visitor’s ledger.
Murugan teaches Management at the university even as he pursues a PHD.
It is understood that Devi spilled his name during her interrogatrion, which has passed four days. Another name which she has revealed is that of Prof. Karuppasamy. According to police sources, he was also purusuing doctorate at Madurai Kamaraj University and allegedly helped Devi to lure girls.
Crime Branch CID sleuths are also moving steps to recover the CCTV footage of the university. The CBCID had formed special teams under Superintendent, Rajeshwari and DSP Muthusankaralingam to search for Murugan and Karuppasamy. They had been searching for the duo for three days.
A team headed by Rajeshwari girlled Devi continuously for three days from Friday. On Sunday night eight oficials searched her house and seized various documents. Nirmala’s brother Ravi, father-in-law Pandiam, husband Saravanapandian were present.
The police team is expected to speak to oficials and staff in Aruppulottai colleges, besides Madurai Kamaraj University Vice Chancellor Chelladurai. His house was also searched. On Friday, the CB-CID team visited Registrar Chinniah’s ofice and coniscated documents mentioning expenses and accommodation given to Nirmala and other professors when they visited the university.
The team is also attempting to get CCTV footage of the University Police looking for Karuppasamy on Sunday conducted a search operation at his house in his native village Thiruchuli, about 15 kilometers to the east of Aruppukkottai.
Police interrogated his wife and relatives and asked them to advise Karuppasamy to surrender. Devi had reportedly told the police that Murugan and Karuppasamy had given her the “urgent assignment” of luring girls for higher oficials of the university.
The investigators who raided Devi’s house on Saturday reportedly seized some material in connection with the sex scandal.
