Amna makes promising start in Italy

ADRIA: UAE champion and Prema Powerteam driver Amna Al Qubaisi made a promising start to her Formula 4 career racing against some of the best drivers in Europe at Round 1 at Adria in Italy on on Sunday.

While always being amongst the top half on pace, Amna oscillated between 12th and 13th on the full grid (31 drivers) and was inside the top four amongst the rookie drivers in the first two races (18 rookie drivers).

“The Flying Girl” couldn’t complete race 1, it was unfortunat­e, as she was well placed in second position in the rookie category. Amna started race one from P16 and moved up in the overall classifica­tions to P13 when she spun out into the gravel in a fast corner.

She bounced back strongly in race 2 with great performanc­e. The Emirati driver started her race from P18 and completed the race after a brilliant driver in P12 overall and 4th in the rookie class. Amna secured her first podium in F4 Italian Championsh­ip when she won the women’s trophy.

Race 3 was very intense, Amna started the race from P15 but had a collision with another car, as a result, she dropped down into P21 but the determined driver was very keen to gain some positions and successful­ly managed to end the race in the 17th position.

Amna said: “It’s a good start to the season, it’s all about experience and I’m very happy with the performanc­e and the pace we had. looking forward to the next one.”

Abu Dhabi Racing Managing Director Khaled Al Qubaisi said: “It is a great debut for Amna in Formula racing. We could not have asked for a better start to her F4 career in Italy.

“She proved her mettle and also that she is able to mix it with the top drivers in Europe. She was always amongst the top half on pace between P12 and P13 and being amongst the top four rookie drivers in the first two races.

“The entire team is happy and impressed and all of us are very proud of her.

“Moreover, Amna’s was the best performanc­e for a female driver here in Europe in F4 so far. This indicates that Amna has great potential going forward in her motorsport career.
