Vidya, Nayantara considered for 2 Jaya biopics

CHENNAI: Hot star of southern cinema Nayantara, national award winning Bollywood actor Vidya Baalan, and superstar Trisha have emerged as favourites as two different movie houses move to make biopics on former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and actor J. Jayalalith­aa.

Vibri Media was the irst to announce a biopic on the late chief minister on Wednesday. Vibri said the ilm will be directed by award-winning Kollywood ilmmaker AL Vijay of “Madrasapat­tinam” fame.

They said the cast will see a mix of actors from Bollywood and south Indian ilm industry, but sources close to the project said Vidya Balan has been sounded for the lead role.

At the same time, Kollywood sources revealed that Nayantara and Trisha are in the running too. Nayantara remains the only actor who can counter a hero at the box ofice in Tamil Nadu. She has been going from blockbuste­rs to blockbuste­rs.

Trisha is a seasoned actor and much loved in the southern states.

The ilm will focus on Jayalalith­aa’s achievemen­ts in ilms and politics and will be launched on her birthday on February 24, Vibri said.

Brinda Prasad Adusumilli, a Vibri director, said, “Madam Dr J.

Jayalalith­a was one of those rare few regional leaders who went on to become a force to reckon within Indian politics. Her life is an inspiratio­n for women folk around the world. This ilm will be a tribute to her achievemen­ts both in cinema and politics. We will launch the movie on her birthday, February 24. The irst look of the ilm will be released on that very day.” “We at Vibri have a vision of telling real stories and director Vijay is overseeing the preproduct­ion work of the ilm himself as per our vision,” said producer Vishnu Vardhan Induri.

The biopic will be made in three languages — Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, he said.

A day after the Vibri announceme­nt came a claim from Chennai-based Papertale Pictures that A Priyadhaar­shini, associate to popular director Mysskin, will direct a biopic on the late leader. In a press statement, the director said an oficial announceme­nt has been set for September 20The production did not seem worried of the Vibri work.

They will launch the project on February 24, 2019, the day the Vibri production is set for release.
