Morgan Le Faye and Kitesurf chase Pomone race glory

-

DUBAI: The four-year-old illies Kitesurf and Morgan Le Faye, both trained by Andre Fabre, go to post in the G2 Darley Prix de Pomone over an extended mile and a half at Deauville, France, on Sunday.

Kitesurf, a daughter of Dubawi, stayed on well to finish fourth on her latest appearance in the 14-furlong G2 Prix Maurice de Nieuil at Longchamp on July 14.

She was also fifth in the G2 Prix Corrida over an extended 10 furlongs at Saint-cloud on 21 May and began 2018 with a two-length victory in the G3 Prix Allez France over 10 furlongs at Longchamp on April 29.

Kitesurf was also a G3 winner in 2017, taking the Prix de Royaumont over a mile and a half at Chantilly in June. Shamardal filly Morgan Le Faye was second on her latest start in a Listed contest over an extended 10 furlongs at Maisons-laffitte on July 22, when she kept on well to go down by a length.

She was also a Listed runner-up in 2017 at Saint-cloud in November over an extended 15 furlongs, having begun her career with victory in a 12-furlong maiden at Clairefontaine in August.

Mickael Barzalona takes the ride on Kitesurf with Amelie Foulon aboard Morgan Le Faye.

The nine other starters in the Darley Prix de Pomone include G2 Prix Corrida runner-up Bebe D’amour plus the G3 winners Precious Ramotswe, God Given and Luminate.

Lisa-jane Graffard of Godolphin commented: “Kitesurf is pretty versatile as regards to distance as she has good form over 10 furlongs and further. I think she is probably better going right-handed.

“She is in good form and raced a little bit like she needed the run last time out, so that will have brought her on.

“We are lining up a campaign in the second half of the season for her and hopefully this race can act as springboard.

“Morgan Le Faye is stepping up in class and is another filly that is really being kept for the autumn as we know she is better at that time of year.

“She is from a late-maturing family and Sunday’s contest should hopefully be a good starting point for the second half of the season.”
