PM will change Pakistan: Expats
SHARJAH: As Imran Khan began a new innings on Saturday as the 22nd prime minister of Pakistan, it is not going to be a flat pitch for the cricketer-turned politician, where he has to deal with a lot of challenges including a strong opposition team led by the PML-N and PPP.
Imran clean bowled PML-N’S Shahbaz Sharif on Friday and secured 176 votes against his rival’s 96 ballots in the National Assembly.
The Gulf Today spoke to Pakistani expatriates to know what they expect from the man who made them proud in 1992 with the historic World Cup victory.
Zahid Iqbal: “He is the man who always lived up to his promises and hopefully will fulfil his pledge of a new Pakistan. Actions speak louder than words. He won the cricket World Cup when nobody thought of such a great triumph. He built a charity cancer hospital when all the medial experts told him it is impossible in a country like Pakistan. He set up an international level university in a remote area of his hometown Mianwali when others opposed it. He established the country’s largest political party from just a single National Assembly seat. Whatever the achievement is, he will make us proud, Insha Allah.” Asad Gilani: “Hopes are high. Imran always admired the
contribution of expats in the country’s progress and it’s time to pay back. He must introduce reforms so the overseas Pakistanis could invest in the country without fear of losing their money in the fraud schemes.” Rashid Sultan: “His struggle for the people of the country is commendable. Education, health and a corruption free Pakistan should be his priorities. He must work for the wellbeing of expatriates as well.
I wish HIM Good luck For THE next ive years.” Shah Nawaz: “Appointment of Usman Buzdar as chief minister, who hailed from the South Punjab, indicates that Imran is serious in rooting out poverty from the country. South Punjab is the most underprivileged area of Pakistan, which was neglected by all the previous governments.
It is a proud moment for me that he picked the CM of Punjab from my city.” Waheb Shah: “Imran brought change in KP. I am the witness. Being a resident of Swabi, I can tell you he will not tolerate corruption and will spend his energies on lifting up the lives of common people.
“He will make us one nation, a proud nation.”
