PRIME MINISTER IMRAN KHAN

-

HALF of the dreams of the venerable people of Pakistan have come true on the day Pakistan Tehreek-e-insaf Chairman Imran Khan was elected the new Prime Minister of Pakistan (“Lawmakers elect Imran as PM,” Aug.17, The Gulf Today).

Imran Khan’s struggle to become the prime minister of Pakistan spans more than 22 years.

But I am sure that Khan has not struggled for the slot of the prime ministership of Pakistan but to make Pakistan better and put the country on the path to success and propriety.

I passionately listened to the first speech of Imran Khan – now Prime Minister of Pakistan — after he was elected Prime Minister in the National Assembly.

The Pakistani media took Khan’s first speech as childish because he repeated his promise to make the country corruption free and bring looted money back to Pakistan.

Before there were only two parties in Pakistan, Muslim League (Nawaz) and Pakistan Peoples Party, who ruled the country for more than 35 years. They made promises to recover looted money from each other and make the country corruption free, but after the elections their first speech in parliament was that they wanted to work together in the best interests of the country, and start looting the country again for 5 years more.

But this time Khan’s first speech in Parliament made it clear that there will not be any National Reconciliation Ordinance, no deal at all; the accountability will be across the board and he will bring looted money back to Pakistan.

And of course it is new for the Pakistani media how a person who made promises with the masses during his election campaign about eliminating corruption and bring looted money back to Pakistan can give the same speech after being elected Prime Minister in Parliament as well.

With Khan, I am sure the future of Pakistan is bright, but still we have a long way to go. Half of the dreams of the people have come true as Imran Khan has become Prime Minister, but the people of Pakistan want him to make the rest of the dream come true and want to see him fulfilling his promises that he made during his election campaign.
