- BY FOUAD ALI

ABU DHABI: The Abu Dhabi Appellate Court deferred to Sept.30 for a ruling, the case of an Asian charged with abducting a girl and threatening to burn her.

As per the case, the suspect had known the victim for four years during which he helped her inancially but then suddenly she decided to end the relationship.

She stopped answering his calls but one day, she contacted him at 10pm and asked him to drop her home. They reportedly disputed and he drove his vehicle through the desert, where he beat her up, tied her and threatened to set her on ire if she resisted.

She allegedly screamed but he gagged her. But, she resisted him and prevented him from touching her while a police patrol passed by and she waved to them. The policemen ordered the suspect to stop the car but he did not.

The Court of First Instance previously sent the suspect to ive years behind bars for kidnapping and threatening, and two months for refusing to stop the car and speedy driving, to be followed by deportation.

The suspect’s lawyer said he did not kidnap the victim but she contacted him and asked him to drop her home.

She added that the victim’s statements were contradictory during interrogations, as she said he beat her up on the head and face, causing her injuries, but, medical reports did not prove so. The lawyer requested his acquittal.
