Women acquitted of Dhs100,000 heist

DUBAI: Two women accused of posing as masseuses to mug and rob a Russian businessma­n of his Dhs100,000 were acquitted on Sunday.

The Nigerian woman, 32, and her peer, 33, irst APPEARED At THE DUBAI Criminal Court on May 22 on suspicion they posted a massage services ad on social media. The businessma­n fell into their trap.

He sent a message to the provided Whatsapp number asking about the services and the location of the massage parlour. He received a message directing him to the hotel in Al Barsha on April 26, 2017.

He knocked on the apartment door. A muscular African woman opened and welcomed him in. As soon as he stepped inside, another African woman pushed him from behind and put a knife on his head.

Both women battered him and threatened to kill him unless he gave them money. He surrendere­d his briefcase that contained the Dhs100,000. They let go of him. He walked out and contacted the police.

Prosecutor­s accused both defendants of BEING THE ones who Conined AND ROBBED the businessma­n. They denied. The Dubai Criminal Court acquitted them of both charges citing lack of evidence.

The peer was additional­ly charged with identity fraud, and giving false personal data to police and prosecutor­s. Over this, the court sentenced her to six months in prison to be followed by deportatio­n.

A lieutenant said investigat­ions revealed the woman and her peer were the ones who rented the apartment. Another lieutenant said they arrested the woman at the airport trying to LEE. SHE DISTANCED HERSELF from the robbery.

A source alerted police the peer was inside a high-rise on Sheikh Zayed Road. During arrest she presented someone else’s passport. She had presented the same to the hotel where the businessma­n was mugged. Its Filipina receptioni­st testiied AGAINST HER.
