Saudi rejects bid to undermine its national security

-

RIYADH: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, out of its leading position in the Arab and Islamic worlds, has played a prominent role throughout history in ensuring security, stability and prosperity for the region and the world, leading efforts to combat extremism and terrorism, while enhancing economic cooperation and consolidating peace and stability in the region and the world, a Saudi official source has stated.

GCC SLAMS ‘DRIVE’

Earlier during the day, the Secretary-general of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Dr Abdul Latif Bin Rashid Al Zayani, has condemned the “media campaign” against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia over the disappearance of the Saudi citizen, Jamal Khashoggi, in Turkey.

The Saudi Press Agency (SPA), quoted the official source as saying: “The Kingdom affirms its total rejection of any threats and attempts to undermine it, whether by threatening to impose economic sanctions, using political pressures, or repeating false accusations that will not undermine the Kingdom and its staunch positions and Arab, Islamic and international status; the outcome of these weak endeavors, like their predecessors, is a demise. The Kingdom as the government and people are steadfast, glorious as ever, no matter whatever the pressures and circumstances might be.”

“The Kingdom also affirms that if it receives any action, it will respond with greater action, and that the

Kingdom’s economy has an influential and vital role in the global economy,” the source added.

“The Kingdom appreciates the brothers’ stand in the face of the campaign of false allegations and falsehoods, as well as it appreciates the voices of the wise people around the world, who have sided with wisdom, deliberation and the search for truth instead of rushing and seeking to exploit rumors and accusations to achieve goals and agendas unrelated to the search for truth.”

‘FALSE ACCUSATIONS’

The GCC Secretary-general said that what is being circulated in some Arab and international media outlets are “false accusations and claims that are not based on facts and aim to harm the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

In a statement to SPA, Al Zayani said that some media channels violated the media’s fundamental principles and codes, and have moved away from professionalism and objectivity, “disseminating lies and falsehoods for obvious political purposes.”

The GCC Secretary-general stressed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has “always maintained its irm traditions and values, taking into account international regulations, conventions and norms.”

He stressed that the Kingdom has proved its willingness to reveal the truth behind the disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi as one of its citizens and did not hesitate in requesting to form a joint committee of inquiry with the Turkish side to reveal the circumstances of the case with full transparency.
