Durrani furious over NAB’S handling of Shahbaz
Former chief minister’s wife says her husband is being held in a ‘dingy 10x10 cell’
ISLAMABAD: Incarcerated President of the Pakistan Muslim League-nawaz (PML-N), former Punjab chief minister and leader of the opposition in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif’s second wife Tehmina Durrani expressed her anguish over the conditions in which her husband has been kept in a cell of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
In a series of tweets, she said eight days after Shahbaz was arrested by NAB, she was inally allowed to meet him. “I have returned home appalled. He lives in a dingy 10x10 cell with an exhaust fan, & not a crack in the concrete 4 [for] fresh air or a ray of light! Thr [there] is no concept of day & nite [night].”
Her husband and she were not allowed to speak alone. Both his jailer and investigator were present, she said.
Durrani further posted that Shahbaz always taught the value of time. He was a man in a hurry. He served and delivered 24/7. Today, as he sits idle in his suffocating cell, she wondered why he “ran” so fast, and yet again today he said he was wasting too much time.
If there is no investigation why is Shahbaz being treated like a condemned criminal? Why is he taken to the NAB court in a dark and airless personnel armoured grave-like jeep? Why is he so unprotected while in NAB custody that he is pushed around and falls? he asked.
Durrani also said the leader of the opposition has not been allowed to meet his lawyers. Despite constantly asking for the required documents, NAB has not provided them. He is investigated for less than 30 minutes a day. Then he waits for the next 30 minutes and the next day to dawn. A dawn he can’t see, she stated.
