Emirati families show interest in SSFA

SHARJAH: The Board of Trustees of the Sharjah Sports Family Award (SSFA), have announced that the second edition of the SSFA has received more than 60 applicatio­ns from across th eu ae, so far. organised by the Sharjah Sports Council (SSC) under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairperso­n of the Supreme council for Family Affairs (SCFA) and Chairperso­n of SSFA, the second edition is being organised under the slogan ‘Behind Every Champion is a Legend’.

The high number of applicatio­ns received within a short span of time since the SSFA’S registrati­ons opened prove the increasing popularity of the award as well as growing interest among the UAE’S local families who have a tradition of excellence in the field of sports to be recognised for their achievemen­ts.

The category, ‘Sporting Family’, which targets families who have made several profession­al accomplish­ments in sports at the local, regional or internatio­nal levels, has so far claimed the lion’s share of applicatio­ns, which means that the second edition of SSFA will be strongly highlighti­ng the achievemen­ts and accomplish­ments of Emiratis in sports.

SSFA allocates a total of Dhs600,000 in prize money spanning its four categories. The Grand Prize, valued at Dhs.300,000 is dedicated to the ‘Sporting Family’ category, which is presented to a family whose members are all outstandin­g athletes. A prize of Dhs.100,000 is awarded to winners of the rest of categories. The ‘Family of Sports Heroes’ category is dedicated to families who have contribute­d to building a sportsman or sportswoma­n. The new category of ‘Hero/ Heroine with a Disability’ was created in line with the UAE’S efforts to support differentl­y abled athletes. The ‘Family Participat­ion in Community and Health Sports’ is also a new category that recognises an Emirati household’s achievemen­ts in sports and their commitment to building a healthy family.
