DUBAI: A security guard who knifed his wife to death for trying to commit suicide was on Tuesday sent to spend ten years in the dock plus deportation.

The African guard, 26, found his wife preparing to commit suicide. He repeatedly stabbed her to death inside a lat at a building along Dubai-ain Road on Sept.7.2017, and stabbed his stomach.

He stabbed himself in a bid to commit suicide too, according to records at Al Barsha Police Station. “Not guilty,” he reiterated denying murder and attempted suicide at the Dubai Criminal Court.

Prosecutors demanded the toughest punishment. During another hearing he contended, “She was the one who assaulted me. She knifed me seven times in the stomach then my arm and neck.

I had to undergo surgical procedures. My intestines were out. A hospital report about her sanity conirmed she was normal.” The court sentenced him to three in prison over attempted suicide.

A Libyan forensic doctor said the guard had six apparently self-inlicted stab wounds on the stomach and no defensive injuries or bruises on his arms to indicate he was stabbed by someone else.

The guard’s Cameroonian latmate said he had not witnessed any misunderstanding between the couple. Before the incident both were happy after she received a job interview invite. The latmate found the lat locked and silent.

It was unclear whether the reason the woman tried to commit suicide was that she failed the interview. Records did not reveal the reason behind her decision.

An Emirati corporal said the guard on seeing him threw the knife on the ground. The corporal’s colleague said the then bloodstained guard leaned against a bed with a wound on his stomach.

An Emirati lieutenant said he saw utensils scattered and the room stained. He explained, “I questioned the guard and he told me that he returned from the washroom and spotted his wife with a knife.

She told him she was going to end her life. He grabbed the knife and put her in a chokehold. He struck her several times. She tried to escape. He struck her in the back then struck his stomach.”
