Kerala CM to open India’s 1st women’s mall on Nov.14

Kozhikode:keralachie­fminister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate India’s first women mall here on Nov.14. Ministers, MPS, MLAS and senior Kudumbashr­ee oficials are expected to be present on the occasion.

The mall, a venture of Unity Group under the Kozhikode Corporatio­n Kudumbashr­ee CDS, is in its inal stages of completion. It houses business establishm­ents run by around 75 women entreprene­urs or groups including those from the Kudumbashr­ee stable.

Mahila Mall is operated by all-women workforce, from security to CEO. Mahila Mall is an exclusive mall where only women own shops. Compared to other malls, women will play various roles as security guard, administra­tor, merchandis­er, manager and so on.

“In India, this is the only commercial venture with an all-women crew,” said MV Ramzi Ismail, Kudumbashr­ee project oficer. The organisers claimed that the mall will igure in Limca book of records as a fully women-run facility.

The mall, housed in a ive storey building on 54 cent land on Wayanad Road near Fathima Hospital has 80 commercial spaces in three loors. The mall will house all kinds of enterprise­s such as supermarke­t, food court, children’s park, spa, beauty parlour, women’s bank, fancy stores, textiles and ready-mades, boutiques, footwear, dry cleaning, car washing, opticals, handicraft­s, baby care, home appliances and book stall.

Besides, there will be conference rooms, training centres and undergroun­d car parking facility.

A micro bazaar with 26 counters will beneit small scale entreprene­urs to ind market for their products. Techno World Training centre of Kudumbashr­ee, family counsellin­g centre, Kerala State Women’s Developmen­t Corporatio­n (KSWDC) help desk, She Taxi help desk and kiosks of various services administra­ted by women will function on the fourth loor. Apart from this, Milma and Khadi Board stores are also being set up. A 3100 square feet electronic play zone will be another attraction in the mall. A food court on the roof garden will provide culinary delicacies of Malabar. ATM counters of two banks will be installed here.

The ground loor of the mall is being occupied by brand outlets and Cafe Sree, Kudumbashr­ee’s exclusive culinary outlet while the irst, second and third loors will have shops by women entreprene­urs of the district.

Though the inaugurati­on of the building was scheduled for the last week of September, the function was postponed to November due to lood disaster that ravaged the state in August.
