Officer fined for false accusation­s, bribing

DUBAI: A 28-year-old Courier irm officer who threatened to fine a subsidiary­companyman­agerdhs2.4m for ‘manipulati­ng statements’ unless the latter paid him Dhs100,000, was HIMSELF ined DHS100,000. THE DUBAI Criminal Court ruled on Wednesday.

According to the case papers, the Arab defendant worked at the courier services irm As A revenues protection oficer Following up with activities of subsidiary companiesl­icencedtod­elivercons­ignments less than 30kg.

He was in charge of noting, detecting and tackling any sort of manipulati­on or Evasion of inancial payments of THE companies’ postal fee –an equivalent to 10 per cent of a given consignmen­t’s shipping cost. He was also in charge of preparingr­eportsthat­weretobesu­bmitted to the administra­tion department which would then take legal actions against the violating companies.

Hefalselya­ccusedashi­ppingcompa­ny’s INDIAN MANAGER, 43, of manipulati­ng analytical statements of cash amounts AND inancial Documents with THE AIM of evading paying the percentage owed to THE irm.

He reportedly contacted the victim AND CLAIMED THE irm HAD slapped A DHS2,400,000 ine AGAINST THE manager’s company. He claimed that there were manipulati­on in the operations and that the payments were irregular until the ines Amounted DHS2,400,000.

He allegedly offered to help commute THE ine to DHS400,000 In CASE THE MANAGER paid him Dhs100,000 in the form of bribe, the Criminal Court learnt.

The manager contacted the police. Police arranged the sum. The manager lured the defendant into an ambush on MAY 23. BESIDES THE ine penalty, THE Court jailed him for one year to be followed by deportatio­n.

In prosecutio­n records, the manager saidthedef­endantexam­inedhiscom­pany’s statements­andalleged­theywereir­regular and that he was concealing some transactio­ns not mentioned in those statements.

The manager said he visited the oficer’s workplace THRICE to Explain to HIM the framework of issuing policies.

THE Fourth time THE oficer OFFERED to help him settle the matter in case he paid HIM DHS100,000. THE oficer promised to slash THE ALLEGED ine to DHS400,000 AND threatened that in case the manager failed TOABIDEHEM­USTTHENPAY­THEDHS2,400,000 in full. The manager’s Emirati sponsor advised him to seek police help.
