BITS Sports Festival enters final stage

DUBAI: The BITS Pilani Dubai Campus presents the 16th edition of the BITS Sports Festival (BSF), which started on the Nov.25 and will run until Nov.29. With a total of 34 participat­ing universiti­es all across UAE comprised of approximat­ely 2200 athletes, this year’s BSF is biggest than ever before.

Day one began with the official opening ceremony with the infamous athletes march past after which the traditiona­l sports torch was lit and the flag was hoisted by the director of the institute Prof. Dr RN Saha, Dean of Student Welfare Dr Priti Bajpai and Senior Manager of Student Services and convener of BSF, Dr M Rafiuddin.

Both indoor and outdoor events started off with full vigor as scheduled.

The universiti­es went head to head in the matches and gave it their all.

Day 2 and 3 of the festival kicked off early on the Nov. 26th and 27 respective­ly.

A result of the matches that were conducted on Wednesday, the badminton teams from Manipal, Gulf Medical University (GMU), Amity and BITS Pilani Dubai Campus (BPDC), will now proceed to the semi-finals after their respective wins.

In basketball-boys, the teams from Rochester institute of technology (RIT), Canadian University Dubai (CUD), Heriot Watt, Manipal and Dubai Men’s College moved one step closer to the quarter-finals.

In basketball- girls, the teams from University of Sharjah (UOS), University of Wollongong Dubai (UOWD) and BPDC advanced to semi-finals.

In cricket boys, BPDC, Manipal University Dubai, American College Dubai, Szabist and EAU proceed to the next round of competitio­n.

In cricket girls, the teams from GMU and Amity reached final.

In football, teams from Amity, UOWD and MODUL advanced as a result of Wednesday’s matches.

In the semi-finals match of the lawn tennis BPDC down Heriot to enter final of the competitio­n.
