Knowledge Summit focuses on youth and economy

Dubai: the if th knowledge summit opened in Dubai on Wednesday under the theme “Youth and the Future of the Knowledge Economy” and tackles the topic of the knowledge economy.
Organised by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF), the Knowledge Summit 2018 has brought together over 100 speakers including experts, decision makers and stakeholders from around the world in more than 45 discussion panels.
The inaugural session was graced by Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, MBRF Chairman Sheikh Ahmed Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and other dignitaries.
Sheikh Hamdan also presented the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Awards to Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation, Institute of International Education (IIE), The Saudi Digital Laboratory (SDL) and The Amersi Foundation.
The Dubai Crown Prince also honoured Egypt’s Ministry of Education (Government category), Unesco (International Organisation category) and Prof Shifa Hasan (Individual category) – Director of the University of Khartoum’s UNESCO/ISESCO Chair for Women in Science and Technology, for their immense contribution towards making the 2030 Literacy Challenge a success.
The Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation is an Egyptian charity NGO founded to establish a medical centre of excellence and international standing in Egypt dedicated to cardiovascular surgery, treatment and research.
The Institute of International Education is a non-proit global education organisation with 18 ofices worldwide seeking to advance scholarship and promote cultural understanding.
The Saudi Digital Library has the largest collection of digital information resources in the Arab World, with more than 680,000 digital books and 174 international and Arab databases for academic articles and multimedia materials.
The Amersi Foundation supports causes and charities for education and youth empowerment.
Later speaking at a session, Dr Magdi Yacoub said, “We continuously implement strategies to reverse heart failure. We also look at hereditary heart disease which is very important to try and ind out why that happens. That is how we generate knowledge in the region.” The two-day summit will also see an elaborate analysis of last year’s Global Knowledge Index results to guide decision makers, experts, and researchers towards implementing developmental policies to improve the gaps.
Throughout their partnership, the UNDP and MBRF shared a vision of promoting knowledge-based sustainable development in the Arab region and beyond, through pioneering projects and initiatives.
