Five held over gang rape of 16-year-old in Kannur

KANNUR: Police arrested five persons in connection the gang rape of a 16-year-old girl, who studies in Class X At A local school, In A LODGE at Parassinik­kadavu near here last month after threatenin­g to release her nude video clips.

“KV Sandeep,vc Shabeer, KV Ayyoob, CP Shamsudhee­n and K Pavithran, all residents of the district, were arrested in connection with the gang rape of a 10th class student. Pavithran is the manager of the lodge where the crime was committed. Eight more persons, including the girl’s father, are being questioned by the police,” DSP KV Venugopal said.

POLICE HAVE iled 15 CASES, of WHICH three pertain to gang rape. Around 20 suspects are involved in the crime and some of these abuses have taken place outside the district, according to police. The police have named 19 persons as accused in the case.

According to the police, a woman, named Anjana, befriended the girl through Facebook. The girl met the woman in person For THE irst time on Nov.13, WHILE she was going to one of her friend’s house in Parassinik­kadavu.

The woman made the girl change her uniform. She took the girl to a lodge in the Parassinik­kadavu in a car that belonged to one of the arrested. The girl was gang raped at the lodge. The gang took her photograph­s in compromisi­ng positions. Later, she was raped again after threatenin­g to publicise her nude pictures. The incident came to light after THE Girl AND HER mother iled A Complaint at the women’s cell in Kannur.

The investigat­ion team also received informatio­n that the girl’s brother was beaten up by a group of six persons after he questioned them for trying to blackmail him using his sister’s nude pictures. The gang members had called the girl’s brother to Shoranur railway station the other day and tried to extort money from him. They showed him the photograph­s, following which there was an altercatio­n and they thrashed him. He talked to his sister later and they approached police.

POLICE SAID THE FACEBOOK profile of Anjana could be fake and some racket could be involved. They also said there were some contradict­ions in the girl’s statement.

Another girl, also a student of the same school, also approached the police with a complaint of abuse and a youth has been detained in this connection. Police said it was being investigat­ed if both the cases had links with the same racket.
