Cop’s assaulter wins lesser penalty

DUBAI: An inebriated worker who punched, kicked and threw an alcohol-drenched shirt at a police oficer During Interrogat­ions HAS won a lenient punishment.

The Asian worker, 26, pulled off his wet T-shirt and hurled it at the Emirati warrant oficer, 30, PUNCHED HIS HEAD AND kicked his stomach, prosecutor­s told the Dubai Criminal Court on May 22.

HE ATTACKED THE oficer In THE CID’S Interrogat­ions OFICE situated INSIDE An events management section at the Dubai Media City on Mar.19, according to records Al Barsha Police Station. He denied the charge during court questionin­g. Prosecutor­s demanded a tough penalty.

The court sentenced him to six months behind bars and ordered he be deported after serving the term.

He appealed for mercy and argued he could not recall what happened between HIM AND THE oficer BECAUSE HE was under THE Inluence of Alcohol. THE Appeals Court has cut the prison term to three months.

THE oficer narrated that HE was on duty interrogat­ing suspected lawbreaker­s when cops brought the shackled defendant INSIDE THE OFICE. HE HAD Consumed Alcohol and wrecked havoc at ongoing events.

“He was too drunk. I asked a cop to take shackles off so he could not react out of discomfort and resentment. I started taking his statement. He suddenly pulled off his wet shirt and threw it at me. I left my seat and went to ask him the reason. He punched my face then KICKED my stomach.” THE oficer SAID HE called for help. CID personnel rushed to his rescue, pinned down the defendant and shackled him again. A corporal and Another policeman testiied that they saw HIM punching THE oficer.

A medical report discussed assault injuries in the cop’s face that took days to heal. During police and prosecutio­n questionin­g the worker confessed to alcohol abuse and assault on cop charges.
