Pope Francis visit shows UAE’S endeavours to promote peace

ABU DHABI: The Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies has welcomed the visit of His Holiness Pope Francis to the United Arab Emirates, which will take place From FEB.3-5.

This came in the closing statement of 5th Annual Conference of the Forum, held in Abu Dhabi under the theme “Alliance of Virtues An Opportunit­y For Global PEACE.”

The Forum said Pope Francis’ visit culminates UAE’S endeavours to promote tolerance, PEACE AND moderation Globally.

Some 800 representa­tives of various religions, internatio­nal human rights organisati­ons, and a wide range of scholars, thinkers and researcher­s worldwide ARE taking part In THE Forum.

The conference’s closing statement recommende­d formation of a committee to draft a charter for the “Alliance of Virtues.” It Also CALLED For Adopting the model of peace convoys as a tool for Cooperatio­n AND CO-EXISTENCE.

The key objective of the “Alliance of Virtues” is to establish a collaborat­ion among different scholars and intellectu­als to promote peace, to reject Exploitati­on of religion In Conlicts AND wars, to instill positive and inclusive citizenshi­p, to respect all faiths and to Combat religious persecutio­n.

THE inal DAY of THE CONFERENCE saw a number of panels, discussing experience­s of various organisati­ons in promoting peace and providing Humanitari­an Assistance.
