Former PM appears before court, slams NAB law

- BY TARIQ BUTT

Islamabad:formerprimeminister Nawaz Sharif said on Friday that the Nationalaccountabilitybureau(nab) law was wrong, but it should remain as it is as he and his party men have suffered it and let the others suffer.

He told reporters in the accountability court of Islamabad where he appeared in connection with hearing into two references against him that the NAB should also question Prime Minister Imran Khan about the misuse of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government’s helicopter and the sources of income of the family members of the premier.

Sharif said that the sources of income of his family was present since 1937. He said he was prosperous even before coming to politics. In politics, only hardships faced, he said.

“The world appreciated Pakistan’s economy during our tenure in government; Karachi Stock Exchange went to 53,000 points from 19,000 points; and the dollar did not appreciated during our years as it shot up in just three months of the present government.” He welcomed the prime minister’s remarks about early elections and said that the Pakistan Muslim League-nawaz (PML-N) was ready to go for a contest.

If the Pakistan Tehrik-e-insaf (PTI) wants to go for midterm elections, this would be a blessing for the people of Pakistan, he said.

“The people are happy over these remarks as they want to get rid of this government even before the schedule time. The PML-N is in a position to win elections whenever they are held.”

He said it was ironic that the NAB was trying to portray a fair and transparent matter as an illegal practice. Around eight million overseas Pakistanis earn their livelihood in different countries and some of them secured distinction in their respective professions and businesses.
