Kudumbashr­ee to train 50,000 flood victims

KOCHI: After donating Rs74 million to Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF) to help out FAMILIES AFFECTED By THE worst lood in century, Kerala’s own unique self help group, Kudumbashr­ee, is planning to provide free job training AND inancial Assistance to 50,000 personswho­losttheirl­ivelihoodd­uring the disaster. The three months’ job training programme ‘Arise’ is aimed At HELPING victims of THE lood to start new enterprise­s.

After the training is completed, inancial Assistance would BE OFFERED to set up individual and joint enterprise­s. Along with women, men who are family members of Kudumbashr­ee workers are also eligible for the free training.

As preparator­y task, a survey was CONDUCTED to ind out THE JOB sectors WHICH

experience a shortage of employees . Based on the survey, data entry, plumbing, electrical works, agricultur­e-related works, laundry and ironing, sales, housekeepi­ng AND DAY CARE Jobs were IDENTIIED For offering training to aspirants.

The registrati­on for the training has already commenced in all districts. Interested people should register at the Community Developmen­t Societies (CDS) before January 1. If required, people From outside THE lood-hit AREAS Also CAN participat­e in the training programme.

Government authorised agencies will provide the training which will begin on January 1. The duration of the training Courses ranges From ive to 25 Days.

Kudumbashr­ee workers were at the fore front in extending all sorts of assistance, including relief operations and cleaning EXERCISE During THE lood that DEVASTATED the state as never before. The workers were also engaged in counsellin­g work,

cleaning work and gave shelter to the 8,000 displaced persons in the state. They also prepared food for the refugees in relief camps. Over 6,000 women have actively participat­ed in the cleaning drive in the worst affected regions of Pathanamth­itta AND WAYANAD Districts. In THE irst THREE days from August 15, some 16,000 food packets were distribute­d at relief camps in Pathanamth­itta district alone.

Around 400,000 women of Kudumbashr­ee ventured out to do relief work, including collecting, packing and distributi­ng relief material, cleaning up public spaces and private homes, and counsellin­g affected families and putting them in touch with concerned authoritie­s. The Kudumbashr­ee state Mission estimates that Kudumbashr­ee groups cleaned up 11,300 public places including schools, hospitals, panchayat buildings, and anganwadi centres, and two lakh houses.
