DUBAI: A motorist behind a horriic hit and run accident that left a jaywalker in a three-month coma has been arrested following a six-month pursuit, police said on Saturday.

The then speeding motorist ran over the Asian pedestrian at a street in Al Quoz Industrial area and went on the run. The pedestrian suffered multiple fractures and spent the period in an ICU at Rashid Hospital.

Bur Dubai Police Station faced the most mysterious and complicated incident ever, under the supervision of Dubai Police Assistant Commander-in-chief of Criminal Investigation, Maj. Gen. Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri.

The scene lacked surveillance cameras besides the absence of an eyewitness or information about the culprit or even material clues that may facilitate the search and investigation and the victim had no data about the car.

However, Lieutenant Ahmad Khalfan Al Hajeri with his intelligence, diligence and perseverance conducted investigations for six months and managed to pin the arrogant driver who almost killed the victim.

The head of the Bur Dubai Police Station, Brigadier Abdulla Khadem Sorour explained, “The police operations room received an alert about a hit and run accident at a street in Al Quoz Industrial Area.

A patrol from the jurisdiction rushed to the scene and discovered the victim was crossing the street from a place not designated for pedestrians. He was hit by car whose number, type and colour were unknown.

There were no material clues apart from a pair of sneakers belonging to the victim and a Toyota logo. The languishing victim was taken to hospital where he underwent a life- saving surgery over the fractures and injuries.”

Lieutenant Al Hajeri who was assigned to carry out the search for the fugitive driver said the circumstances of the incident were characterized by extreme dificulty as there was nothing to start with except the logo.

Investigation and collection of evidence lasted for six consecutive months.

Investigations revealed the wanted motorist was extremely discreet, especially that he even led and travelled abroad to evade arrest.

He involved his son in his crime by advising him to fabricate a collision incident to hide the effects of the run over accident. “Despite their careful planning they did not succeed in escaping the law,” stressed Al Hajeri.

Police discovered the wanted driver’s identity, pinned him down and seized the car.

Brigadier Khadem Sorour warned pedestrians against crossing roads from non- designated points as it threatens their safety.
