Death penalty for Azan’s killer

ABU DHABI: The Abu Dhabi Cassation Court unanimousl­y sentenced 33-year-old killer to death, over the rape and murder of a Pakistani child, Azan.

The verdict has been submitted to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan for approval, while the execution shall be implemente­d by means applicable in the country, and in the presence of the child’s parents, if possible. The Court has cancelled the sentence of obligating the convict to pay the blood money.theconvict­hadrapedan­dmurdered 11-year-old Azan, in June 2018. He had disguised himself as a woman in front of the child, to avoid being recognised. He had come to the country two years ago to live with his father. He took the child to the roof, beat him up and raped him before strangling the boy to death using a rope.

Theheinous­crimehasse­ntshockwav­es across the communitie­s in the UAE. The body of the child was found on the roof of an apartment building the next day.

The report from the Psychologi­cal Medical Committee said that the murderer did not suffer any mental illness, is fully aware, conscious and stable, and is responsibl­e for his actions and conduct.

“I do not have any psychologi­cal or mental problems, but I refuse their accusation of killing the child, and having involved me in this case,” the defendant commented on the medical report.

The UAE law assures everyone in the country that all are equal before the law.

The nation will not tolerate any inhuman act that disturbs the stability and tranquilit­y of the society.
