Arges emerges Abu Dhabi King of The Mats

ABU DHABI: The Abu Dhabi King of The Mats’ third edition was held at the Mubadala Arena with action from ten of the best middleweig­hts in the black belt division, who competed for a combined total cash prize of $42,000.

The final day of the fourth leg of Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiu-jitsu World Tour (season 4] came to an end with the blue belts in the adult and masters categories [male & female].

Gabriel Arges won the title of the Abu Dhabi King of Mats, after he defeated Isaque Braz in a very entertaini­ng and tactically astute fight as both players didn’t want to give away any advantage. The match ended 6-2 to Gabriel.

“I went to this match with the mentality of winning the title, and I gave it my best shot. It was a really intense tournament as the breaks between the matches were really very short.” said Arges.

“I would like to give all the credit for my performanc­es to my team and teammates, they have helped me to develop my skillset and my career as an athlete. It is a nice feeling to add this prestigiou­s title to my collection and all my thanks goes to the UAE Jiu-jitsu Federation,” he added.

Braz who lost a very close fight in the finals said: “Gabriel is a top quality player, so I congratula­te him on his win. I badly wanted to win, so I hope I can come back again and win in future. I want to thank my team and also I am grateful to the UAEJJF for organising­thisamazin­gtournamen­t.”

The fifth and final leg of the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiu-jitsu World Tour Season 4 now heads to London.
