- BY TARIQ BUTT

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has refused to accept his personal physician’s advice for going out of the Kot Lakhpat jail Lahore for medical tests in a hospital.

Sharif’s personal physician Dr Adnan visited him in the prison and examined him. The doctor advised Sharif to come out of the jail and be shifted to a hospital for undergoing tests but Sharif refused and said he wanted that his tests be conducted in the prison.

Dr Adnan advised him to undergo ECG and other blood tests out of the jail after moving to hospital. On Sharif’s insistence to undergo the tests in the jail, his tests and ECG are expected to be carried out in the next 24 hours.

Sharif was suffering from high fever and body pain, on which, a request was made to the jail authorities for providing him with treatment facility by his personal physicians. After the tests are done, Dr Adnan will visit the jail to see Sharif.

The doctor was allowed to see Sharif after the Punjab government gave him the permission to do so in the wake of complaints of illness.

The thrice elected former prime minister is in jail since Dec 24 when an accountability court of Islamabad convicted him to seven years’ imprisonment in a reference iled by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Despite being ill, Sharif’s refusal is meant to convey a clear message to his tormentors that he was not scared of imprisonment and would face it with courage
