Fake nuclear engineer, cohorts jailed
A waiter who posed as a national nuclear corporation engineer to swindle a credit card was on Sunday sentenced to two years in jail with two accomplices.
The Asian waiter, 32, swindled the credit card but his scheme to start withdrawing cash from a bank client’s account failed ater the bank’s credit section detected his documents as fake.
The Criminal Court convicted him with a compatriot sales executive, 37, and an unemployed accomplice, 38. The accomplice helped him forge the documents and even escorted him to receive the card from the bank’s sales officer.
The sales officer – a Pakistani woman, 27 – said the waiter had convinced her he was an engineer at the corporation who wanted to open a current account and needed help on the issue. She met him at the corporation’s parking lots in Abu Dhabi.
She later had a meeting with him at a mall in Dubai. He presented his alleged passport and an ID along with their copies, a bank statement and a salary certificate’s copy. He filled in and signed the necessary documents.
He signed an application for the credit card with a Dhs25,000 limit. She examined the documents and their copies and returned the original documents to him. She referred the transaction to the credit section for its endorsement.
The corporation’s report revealed it had no employee with names mentioned on the salary certificate. A residency directorate report confirmed the visa was fake. Upon arrest, the waiter testified against his accomplices.
The sales officer recognised the sales executive during a parade. Police examined the sales executive’s two iphones and landed on copies of passports, IDS, visas, cheques, an e-entry permits and salary certificate.
