Ex-lover blackmails over money

- Ehab Atta and Mohammed Barakat, Staff Reporters

An Arab woman, 35, threatened a GCC citizen, 35, that she would disclose his relationship with her if he did not give her around 140,000 Moroccan dirhams plus Dhs4,500 a month. The woman took advantage of their friendship and her knowledge of his secrets about his personal life.

Post investigation, the Dubai Public Prosecution referred the defendant to the courts of law where the victim testified that he had met her some time ago and formed a relationship.

He would invite her to restaurants and give her money as she was divorced and had children back home. He also shared with her personal information about his family and friends and offered to be engaged to her, provided she gives up her work as a dancer in a night club.

She agreed but could not keep her promise and continued to work as a dancer although he talked to her several times but in vain. He cut off his relationship with her and changed his mobile number before he travelled for a while outside the UAE. When he returned, he was surprised to find his friends telling him the defendant was calling them and asking about him. He immediately used his old mobile number to speak with her but she asked for money and he gave her Dhs5,500. She asked for more and threatened she would send their video clips in Spain to his wife, parents and friends if he did not give her 140,000 Moroccan dirhams plus Dhs4,500 a month.

ASSAULTING DRIVER

The Sharjah Criminal Court adjourned the case in which an African and others were accused of assaulting a taxi driver and stealing Dhs1,500 from him at knifepoint to April 14.

The victim told the judicial authority that the defendant and others took his taxi. When they reached their destination, one of them paid him Dhs100 and while the driver was giving him the change, another put a knife to his neck and stole Dhs1,500 and two mobile phones before running away.

The victim chased them in his taxi and was able to catch the defendant hiding in a car-park. He grabbed him but the defendant bit the victim’s right hand in an atempt to escape but could not and was handed over to the police.

Upon interrogation, the defendant denied the charge, saying he never used a taxi. He also quarreled with the taxi driver because he caught him without telling him why he did so.
