Six-month jail term for sheep thieves

The Criminal Court in Dubai on Monday sentenced three men to six months in jail each over livestock robberies. The convicts reportedly broke into a Dubai farm and fled with nine sheep.

The Asian defendants –a labourer, 27, his colleague, 34, and a driver, 25- stole the sheep from a farm in Tay area at night on Oct.11.2018 and sold some of them at a livestock market in Sharjah.

They took them to the market and sold them at Dhs3, 300. The driver explained that they sold five sheep at the market at Dhs1, 750 and sold the rest to people visiting the colleague’s workplace at Dhs350 each.

The labourer used metal scissors to cut a hole in the farm’s fence. He snatched the nine sheep worth around Dhs22, 500. The colleague and driver helped cram them inside an SUV, according to records at Al Hebab Police Station.

On the record, an Emirati warrant officer said that the sheep owner –an Arab man- contacted the police complainin­g that his sheep were missing and that he had come across footprints and tyre tracks around a hole cut in the fence.

Four Asian visitors –the defendant, a compatriot colleague, burglar, and driver (all in their 40s)- will have to serve six month in prison each to be followed by deportatio­n over robbery charges, the Criminal Court ordered on Monday.

A police team stormed the villa and arrested the visitors. One of them, the defendant, confessed and narrated that he and the others devised a plan to rob houses in Jumeirah area.

They monitored several villas and their choice fell on that of the manager as its lights were off.

He, the colleague and burglar stepped out of the getaway car and scaled the fence. The driver remained watching the situation in case someone was coming. The burglar hammered the sliding glass door. The others gave similar confession­s. The lieutenant revealed police recovered the watches.
