Law on judicial fees in Dubai Courts amended
According to the amended Article (8), some categories, lawsuits, claims and appeals will not be subject to the prescribed fees
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has issued Law No. (2) for 2019 amending certain provisions of Law No. 21 for 2015 regarding the judicial fees in Dubai Courts.
Article 91) of the new law stipulates that Articles (8), (14) and (35) of the original law be replaced by other provisions relating to nonpayment of fees, lawsuit of estimated value and relative fees.
According to the amended Article (8), some categories, lawsuits, claims and appeals will not be subject to the prescribed fees. These include the lawsuits, appeals or claims filed by the federal government entities or the local entities in Dubai or any other emirate. They also included the lawsuits related to endowments, donations and charity-dedicated wills.
The amended Article (14) stipulates that a fee of 6 per cent of the value of the lawsuit will be imposed on the lawsuits filed before courts of first instance, civil lawsuits of a criminal case and business-based lawsuits of more than Dhs500,000, excluding personal status lawsuits. The fee, however, will not be less than Dhs500 and no more than Dhs20,000 if the value of the lawsuit does not exceed Dhs500,000, Dhs30,000 if the value of the lawsuit ranges between Dhs500,001 and Dhs1 million and Dhs40,000 if the value of the lawsuit is over Dhs1 million.
Article (2) of Law No. 2 for 2019 stipulates that the two fees specified under item (72) relating to bankruptcy declaration and debt setlement will be reduced to Dhs500 instead of Dhs2,000.
The amended law will take effect from April 15, 2019 and will be published in the Official Gazete.
ETHIOPIAN SPEAKER
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, received on Monday Keria Ibrahim, Speaker of the House of Federation of Ethiopia, who was accompanied by Dr Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of Federal National Council, FNC.
The two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries, particularly in parliamentary, developmental and humanitarian fields. Also discussed were topics of mutual interest.
Sheikh Mohamed and the Speaker of the House of Federation of Ethiopia also talked about the importance of parliaments in advancing peoples’ issues and supporting their aspirations for development, stability, peace and prosperity.
The meeting also touched on ties of friendship and UAE’S developmental and humanitarian efforts in Ethiopia. The meeting was atended by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, Sheikh Tahnoun Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Ruler’s Representative in Al Ain Region, Sheikh Suroor Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Nahyan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, Lt. General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior and Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance. His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, also received General Koji Yamazaki, Chief of Staff, Joint Staff of the Japan Self-defence Forces, and his accompanying delegation at the Beach Palace in Abu Dhabi.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed current cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the defence and military sectors. They emphasised the importance of enhancing said ties for the benefit of the two countries.
Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed and General Yamazaki also exchanged views on regional and global affairs of mutual interest.
Mohammed Bin Ahmed Al Bowardi, Minister of State for Defence Affairs, Lt. General Eng. Issa Saif Bin Ablan Al Mazrouei, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Mohamed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Under-secretary of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court, and Akihiko Nakajima, Ambassador of Japan to the UAE, also atended the meeting.
