Sharjah’s ‘smart’ move on errant vehicles
SHARJAH: Under the keenness of the Sharjah Police General Directorate to constantly develop and improve the provided services, a smart vehicle service was activated to impound the violating vehicles in the central region, to be followed by the rest of the emirates.
The aim of such a development was to achieve the strategic objectives of the Sharjah Police, which are in line with the Ministry of Interior’s visions to improve the level of customer satisfaction by providing services that are in accordance with the best international standards, in an atempt to ease all kind of procedures for the people.
Major Hamdan Khalifa, Head of Traffic and Patrols Department of the Central Region Police Department, pointed out that the constant efforts made by the Sharjah Police to improve the quality of provided services are within their strategies and innovative approach of providing the best services.
Maj. Khalifa stated that the service works according to the mechanism of the smart vehicle, which can be set inside the house by installing an electronic device connected to the satellite of the Police’s control room.
Once the vehicle is moved, an alarm goes off in the control room of Sharjah Police, notifying them of the vehicle’s location.
Recently, the Traffic and Patrols Department intensified efforts on the roads as part of the “Aman Ya Ramadan” campaign, which was launched by the Sharjah Police General Directorate at the beginning of Ramadan. The ramped-up efforts seek to ensure a smooth and safe flow of traffic for road users. This is in line with the objectives of Sharjah Police, as part of the Ministry of Interior’s strategic goal of making roads safer.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdulrahman Khater, Director of Sharjah Police Traffic Awareness and Media, emphasised the importance of increasing the awareness and knowledge of road users about traffic laws by distributing multilingual awareness leaflets. The leaflets include instructions which draw the atention of drivers on the required safety measures and the importance of being cautious while driving.
Moreover, the Sharjah Police called upon drivers to abide by traffic rules and not step out of line. They also aim to encourage the cooperation between police and members of the society by intensifying patrols and security surveillance on both internal and external roads, apart from allocating awareness-raising patrols in residential areas and markets to give proper guidance to motorists and pedestrians to maintain road safety.
