Series of activities planned for Yoga Day

DUBAI: Following the roaring success of the Internatio­nal Day of Yoga during the past four years, the Consulate General of India in Dubai and various Indian community organisati­ons have geared up to repeat the success for the fith consecutiv­e year.

To mark the fith Internatio­nal Day of Yoga (IDY 2019), which falls on June 21, the Consulate General of india and various indian community organisati­ons have invited residents across Dubai and Northern Emirates to a free evening of yoga and inspiratio­n.

Focused on promoting holistic wellness, a series of events will be hosted in Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain on Friday and Saturday.

The Consulate General of India in Dubai has been supported by various yoga schools, Indian associatio­ns in various emirates, community organisati­ons and local government authoritie­s to make the event successful. The main programme will be held on Friday at the Zabeel Park, Dubai. No prior registrati­on is required as the venue has the capacity to accommodat­e about 10,000 yoga practition­ers.

Gates of Zabeel Park, Dubai will open at 6pm. The yoga competitio­n will begin at 7pm. The main programme will start at 7.30pm, which will be followed by common yoga protocol.

Consul General of India in Dubai Vipul said that the flow of activities have been modified this year to allow various yoga schools publicise their practices.

Various yoga schools including the Art of Living, Isha Foundation, Raja Yoga, and Heartfulne­ss Yoga will have separate stalls, where they will conduct yoga practices in their unique way.

The Indian Associatio­n Sharjah will hold the yoga session at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday from 6pm to 10pm.

The Indian Associatio­n Ajman will also organise IDY 2019 activities at its premises on Friday from 7pm to 9pm. “An active lifestyle is essential to maintain a healthy balance between the body and mind. Yoga and meditation are perfect to channel harmony in routine life and reap the benefits by relaxing the mind. We are thrilled to host the Yoga event and hope that our guests experience utmost relaxation,” said Roop Sidhu, General Secretary of Indian Associatio­n Ajman.

IDY 2019 activities will be organised in Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah on Saturday.

In Ras Al Khaimah, the activities will be held at the American University campus from 6.30pm to 9.30pm, while Indian Social Club Fujairah will host the activities at the Khalifa Auditorium from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. In Umm Al Quwain, the activities will be held at Etihad Hall from 11am to 1pm.
