Khalifa pardons 669 inmates ahead of Eid Al Adha
ABU DHABI: President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the release of 669 prisoners – serving various sentences – on the occasion of Eid Al Adha.
Sheikh Khalifa has also pledged to settle the financial obligations of the released prisoners.
The gesture is part of president khalifa’s keenness to provide prisoners with an opportunity to start a new life and alleviate their families hardships.
Last year, Sheikh Khalifa ordered the release of 785 prisoners across the country ahead of the 47th National Day celebrations.
The release of prisoners, and the setlement of their debts and fines, reflects the President’s keenness to grant them another chance for a new life and to relieve their families of hardships.
In May, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, ordered the release of 587 prisoners of different nationalities from Dubai’s correctional and punitive establishments, ahead of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Attorney General of Dubai Chancellor Essam Issa Al Humaidan said that His Highness’s order to pardon the prisoners will bring happiness to their families, and help the pardoned individuals get a fresh start in life and reintegrate into the community.
The Attorney General also said that the Public Prosecution has commenced the legal procedures to implement Sheikh Mohammed’s order.
H.H. Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, ordered the release of 377 prisoners of various nationalities, who have demonstrated good conduct during their sentences in punitive and corrective institutions in the Emirate of Sharjah, on the occasion of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
