Khalifa pardons 669 inmates ahead of Eid Al Adha

ABU DHABI: President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the release of 669 prisoners – serving various sentences – on the occasion of Eid Al Adha.

Sheikh Khalifa has also pledged to settle the financial obligation­s of the released prisoners.

The gesture is part of president khalifa’s keenness to provide prisoners with an opportunit­y to start a new life and alleviate their families hardships.

Last year, Sheikh Khalifa ordered the release of 785 prisoners across the country ahead of the 47th National Day celebratio­ns.

The release of prisoners, and the setlement of their debts and fines, reflects the President’s keenness to grant them another chance for a new life and to relieve their families of hardships.

In May, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, ordered the release of 587 prisoners of different nationalit­ies from Dubai’s correction­al and punitive establishm­ents, ahead of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Attorney General of Dubai Chancellor Essam Issa Al Humaidan said that His Highness’s order to pardon the prisoners will bring happiness to their families, and help the pardoned individual­s get a fresh start in life and reintegrat­e into the community.

The Attorney General also said that the Public Prosecutio­n has commenced the legal procedures to implement Sheikh Mohammed’s order.

H.H. Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, ordered the release of 377 prisoners of various nationalit­ies, who have demonstrat­ed good conduct during their sentences in punitive and corrective institutio­ns in the Emirate of Sharjah, on the occasion of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

He has also expressed appreciati­on for Sheikh Sultan’s gesture, stressing that it reflects his keenness on granting the pardoned prisoners another chance for a new life and to relieve their families of hardships.
