Unnao rape survivor brought to Delhi, admitted to AIIMS

-

There is no improvement in the condition of her lawyer Mahendra Singh, who is still in a deep coma

The Unnao rape survivor was admited to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here on Monday ater being air-lited from Lucknow.

The woman, who was critically injured in a road accident on July 28 in which two of her aunts were killed and her lawyer injured, was flown by an air ambulance, following a Supreme Court order.

An hour ater the Supreme Court ordered that the Unnao rape survivor be shited to Delhi for treatment, the King George’s Medical University (KGMU) issued a statement saying that her health condition was improving.

However, there is no improvement in the condition of her lawyer Mahendra Singh, who is still in a deep coma.

“There is an improvement in the condition of the female patient. She is following commands and opening her eyes. Her fever is also subsiding. Preparations to take her off the ventilator are underway,” KGMU said in a statement.

“However, we still have to medicate her to maintain her blood pressure,” it added.

The Unnao rape survivor and her lawyer are being treated at the Trauma Centre of the KGMU in Lucknow ater they sustained serious injuries in an accident on July 28.

The statement further said that the condition of the two patients is ‘critical but stable’.

The doctors, meanwhile, said they had no information about when the rape survivor would be airlited to Delhi.

A truck had rammed into the vehicle in which the girl, her counsel and two aunts were travelling to Rae Bareli.

While she and her lawyer sustained grievous injuries, both her aunts died on the spot.

The Utar Pradesh Police has filed a case of murder against rape accused and legislator Kuldeep Singh Sengar and nine others in connection with the accident.

Utar Pradesh MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar said that he has prayed for the recovery of the survivor and her lawyer who were seriously injured in a road accident last week.

Talking to reporters outside the Sitapur jail from where he was taken to Delhi by the CBI on Sunday, Sengar said he was being framed as part of a “political conspiracy”.

“There should be a thorough probe to ascertain whether the accident on July 28 was just an accident or a conspiracy. All the angles must be probed. All this is a political conspiracy aimed against me.

“All the allegations, which have been levelled against me, are political in nature. If helping someone is a crime, then what will we people in politics do? Some people have become weak and have resorted to political conspiracy against me,” he said and demanded an impartial probe into the rape as well as the accident charges.

Actor Tanushree Duta feels India is turning into a rape epidemic-afflicted country.

“Our great nation India has been slowly and steadily turning into a rape epidemic afflicted country! The Unnao rape case and the unfoldment of it a horrific reminder of the state of affairs,” the actor said in a statement she issued reacting on the Unnao rape case on Monday.

Taking a dig at the judgemental tendency of people, her statement further reads: “A large portion of news coming out of India is about women and children geting raped, gang-raped, killed by mass female infanticide, burnt for dowry or killed ater rape in a brutal gory fashion, or lately goats and dogs geting raped even etc etc.. Like seriously who in their right mind still feels high and mighty about our so-called “sanskaari” culture blah blah blah.. that we tell ourselves to judge the rest of the world that wears shorts and bikinis? There are places in the world where women literally lie down nude on beaches and no rapes or eve-teasing even happens. How are you the “sanskaari” lot then may I ask where women, regardless of whether fully covered or not are atacked rampantly?”

Urging that the people of India need to have a change in their mentality, the actress added: “The problem then is not the cover but your mentality. Open your eyes and understand the darkness that is drowning this Nation Its ironic that for a population that by and large has got its nose prety high up in the air about it’s socalled value system; rapes are an epidemic across urban as well as rural India. Time to perhaps reassess your values? Or maybe tweak them a bit to accommodate compassion?”
