First Hindu girl to serve Sindh police as officer

KARACHI: In a historic first in Pakistan, a Hindu girl has been inducted into Sindh police ater she cleared the provincial competitiv­e examinatio­n.

Push pakolhih as been posted as an assistant sub Inspector (ASI) in the province, reported Geo news.

The news was shared on Twiter by Pakistani human rights activist Kapil Dev late on Tuesday.

“Pushpa Kolhi has become the first girl from #Hindu community who has qualified provincial competitiv­e examinatio­n through Sindh Public Service Commission and become Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) in Sindh Police. More power to her!” Dev tweeted.

Earlier in January, Suman Pawan Bodani became Pakistan’s first female judge belonging to the Hindu community. Bodani, who hails from the Shahdadkot area in Sindh, stood 54th in the merit list for the appointmen­t of civil judge/ judicial magistrate.

Several precious idols and artefacts have been unearthed during fresh constructi­on work at a temple in Soldier Bazaar area of Karachi, media reports said.

The idols and artefacts were found during the constructi­on work at Karachi’s historic Panchmukhi Hanuman Mandir, which holds special significan­ce for Hindus many of whom believe that it is the only shrine in the world which has a naturally-created statue of Lord Hanuman.

The temple’s trustee Ram Nath Maharaj said that it can’t be said with certainty how old the temple is — 500 years or 1,500 years old or even older than that.

In an unrelated developmen­t, at least six terrorists, including a woman, were killed in a raid by security forces in Queta, Balochista­n province, on Wednesday.

The ba loch is tan’ s counter-terrorism department (CTD) personnel carried out an intelligen­ce-based operation during which a woman is said to have blown herself up by detonating her explosive vest.

Officials said the five-hour long operation was carried out at a compound near the eastern bypass by a joint team of CTD and intelligen­ce agencies. A huge cache of arms and explosives were also recovered. At least three CTD personnel were injured in the operation.
