Richmond Avenue finishes third at Goldikova Stakes

SANTA ANITA: Richmond Avenue produced a strong late run to take third in the G2 Goldikova Stakes over a mile on turf at Santa Anita, US, on Sunday.

Making her Graded debut, the Andre Fabretrain­ed four-year-old was held up in fith of the six-strong field by Mickael Barzalona. She still had four rivals in front of her entering the final furlong but stayed on well to snatch third near the line.

Toinete won by two and a quarter lengths in 1m 33.38s on firm ground, with Simply Breathless coming home another length and a quarter ahead of the Godolphin filly.

Lisa-jane Graffard of Godolphin said: “It was a good run from Richmond Avenue and we are very pleased to get some Graded-race Black Type with her. She will return to France now and we will discuss any plans with Andre Fabre.”

Godolphin’s head Australian trainer James Cummings will roll out the latest of his two-year-old string when Unblushing runs in the Listed Otowa Stakes at Flemington on Tuesday.

Unblushing (Brad Rawiller) is a daughter of Brazen Beau who is having a strong spring with a pair of Stakes winners in the past month.

The filly is out of the Stakes-winning mare Zubbaya and a half-sister to the Listed Godolphin winner Langoustin­e.

Cummings will also saddle the handy performers Haunted and Intuition in the Listed MSS Security Sprint on the Melbourne Cup card.

Haunted is a last-start Listed winner at Caulfield where he beat Parsifal who franked the form with a win at its next start and who opposes again here.

Intuition resumed last stat with an unplaced run at G2-level at Caulfield and has the opportunit­y to improve with a drop in class in this race.

African Gold secured a first placing in Paternrace company with a staying-on third in the G2 Copa Republica Argentina at Tokyo, Japan, on Sunday, 3 November.

The Masato Nishizono-trained four-year-old, successful at the same course in the Rokusha Stakes on Sunday, 6 October, broke smartly and was covered up in eighth of the 13 runners by Christophe Lemaire for most of the extended 12-furlong contest.
