Arab League congratulates UAE on 48th National Day
CAIRO: The Arab League congratulated the UAE on the occasion of its 48th National Day.
Ambassador Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-general of the Arab League, expressed the appreciation of the Cairo-based pan-arab organisation for the journey of the UAE, as well as its role in achieving social and economic development for its citizens and in reinforcing the values of tolerance, coexistence and human solidarity.
In a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, Zaki said, “The late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan established the foundations of this approach.” He also praised the UAE’S key role in supporting Arab causes.
Recently, the Arab League held its regular meetings on the role of media in countering terrorism and hate speech in Dubai.
Attended by delegations from 15 member states, the meetings were jointly hosted by the Dubai Press Club and Watani Al Emarat Foundation in collaboration with the Secretariat General of the Arab League.
President of Dubai Press Club Mona Al Marri said the choice of Dubai as the venue for the meetings is consistent with its selection as the Capital of Arab Media for 2020 by the Arab Information Ministers Council, which recognises Dubai’s instrumental role in the development of the region’s media industry over the past twenty years.
“Dubai continues to provide a conducive environment for fostering dialogue and promoting collaboration. We have hosted several events that provide productive platforms for deliberating on key regional issues. The Arab Media Forum, the largest and most prominent annual media event in the region, organised by the Dubai Press Club, has featured many discussions on the role of media in combating terrorism.”
Dr Fawzi Al Ghuwail, Director of The Arab Information Ministers Council’s Technical Secretariat, said that such meetings are part of the Arab League’s efforts to promote the role of the region’s media in combating terrorism and defusing its potential negative impact on Arab society.
