Dubai Police bag World Class Policing Awards
The Dubai Police General HQ, represented by The General Department of Anti-narcotics Unit has received a ‘highly commended’ recognition at the prestigious World Class Policing Awards for smashing an international drug ring in the largest ever operation of its kind in the United Arab Emirates.
The force beat off competition from 54 finalists, drawn from more than 100 outstanding entries from across the globe, to win a trophy at the new event recognising outstanding police work worldwide.
The “Operation Stalker” led to the capture of two international drug smuggling gangs and revealed their method of smuggling drugs in spare parts of cars.
Crystal Meth, hashish and 365kg of heroin with a street value of $80million, the largest-ever haul in the UAE, were seized by the Dubai Police drug enforcement officers.
Most advanced artificial intelligence technologies were utilized to catch the smugglers, such as facial recognition and drones.
His Excellency Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander in Chief of Dubai Police, said that this recognition is the fruit of the joint intensive efforts undertaken by all general departments and police stations, which operate in accordance with the directives of the country, to ensure security and safety, and protect youth from falling into the clutches of drugs.
Meanwhile, Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander in Chief of Criminal Investigation Affairs, said that Dubai Police are sparing no effort in combating drugs locally and internationally, believing it to be one of the most prickly global issues for being an overseas intertwined crime. It requires concerting all the security efforts and police services, he added, stressing that the Dubai Police adopt a systematic and sophisticated work system, as well as the cutting-edge techniques of artificial intelligence, which provide very important data and information is to enable the police to combat such crimes.
Also, the Dubai Police General HQ added another certificate to its record of achievements by securing ISO 18295-1:2017 (Call Center Management System) Certification, making them the first police institution in the UAE to receive this accolade.
The certificate was awarded by Bureau Veritas Dubai after checking the performance and work mechanism at the department.
The Dubai Police’s non-emergency hotline 901 received 121,785 calls during the third quarter of this year. Of them, 78,423 calls were answered within 20 seconds.
The award was received by H.E Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri, Commander-in-chief of Dubai Police, who praised the achievement undertaken by Call Center 901 at Dubai Police.
